Decks and artists our curator Alex loves most.
By Stuart R. Kaplan | Illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith, recolored by Mary Hanson-Roberts | Published by U.S. Games Systems
The iconic drawings of Pamela Colman Smith beautifully recolored by Mary Hanson-Roberts.
I send this deck to my friends and family that have never tried Tarot Cards but want to support me and "try it out". I think this version has the best recoloring of all original decks. I also think beginners need the clear symbolism of this deck to get started. If you don't know where to start or just want a core deck, this is my pick.

A visually striking deck featuring deep azure tones and golden accents with intricate mystical illustrations. Each card is richly detailed and designed to spark intuition, making it as much a collector's piece as a reading tool.
This deck aligns nicely with the RWS symbolism, so I think it is very beginner friendly. The artwork is beautiful, and it is one of my absolute favorite decks. It has a light, breezy feel that brings an easy kind of positive energy to a reading. The blue tones are soothing and calming, especially on stressful days.

From the creator of the Crow Tarot, this animal themed deck features a global collection of nocturnal creatures, from bats and owls to pangolins and orcas. A reminder that there is always light to be found even on the darkest nights. Beautiful digital paintings with unexpected creature choices that bring fresh energy to every reading.
I love the animal theme of this deck and the way each creature seems to carry the feeling of the card so naturally. The expressions are especially well done and really help bring the meanings to life. It feels fresh, a little wild, and very readable at the same time. I also linked the artist's name to their personal website so you can explore all of MJ's decks and order directly if you find one you love.

By Kim Huggens | Illustrated by Erik C. Dunne | Published by Llewellyn
A richly detailed, borderless deck with vivid digital illustrations that follow the Rider Waite Smith tradition. The title refers not to secret societies but to the Light of Wisdom, and every card glows with layered symbolism and saturated color.
I love the vibrant colors and the energy in this deck. This is bold, almost glowing, and it feels full of energy when you hold it. This is a deck I reach for when I want a reading to feel strong and full of life.
