What is Lantern Arcana Tarot?

A tarot companion app for iPhone and iPad. Draw cards from your own physical deck or use augmented reality to draw virtual cards, then receive thoughtful, AI generated interpretations grounded in symbolic tradition. Designed for personal reflection and entertainment.

Do I need my own tarot deck?

No, but it is recommended. Lantern Arcana Tarot is built around the experience of working with physical cards. Most users shuffle their own deck, draw their cards, and tell the app what they pulled. If you do not have a physical deck, you can use the AR Card Draw feature to draw virtual cards instead.

What tarot decks are supported?

The app works with any standard 78 card tarot deck based on the Rider Waite Smith tradition. You can also photograph your own cards to create a custom deck within the app, or browse and purchase premium decks from the Deck Shop.

How do I create an account?

You can sign up with an email address and password, or use Sign in with Apple or Google. Your account lets you save readings to your journal and sync your credits.

How do readings work?

Choose a spread (such as a single card, three card, or Major Arcana), select the cards you drew from your physical deck, and optionally enter a question or topic. The app sends your selection to an AI model that generates a detailed interpretation based on each card's symbolism, position, and relationship to the other cards.

Are the interpretations accurate?

Interpretations are generated by AI and draw on established tarot symbolism. They are intended as a lens for personal reflection, not as predictions or professional advice. The same cards may produce different interpretations at different times, which is part of the reflective process.

Can I save my readings?

Yes. Every reading is automatically saved to your journal. You can revisit past readings, add personal notes, mark favorites, and delete readings you no longer need.

What is voice reading?

Every reading can be narrated aloud in one of five distinct voices. Voice narration is included with every reading at no extra cost. You can choose your preferred voice in Settings and enable autoplay so readings are narrated automatically.

What is "Scan Your Spread"?

Instead of manually selecting each card, you can take a photo of your physical card layout. The app uses image recognition to identify the cards in your spread and fills them in for you.

What if the scan gets a card wrong?

After scanning, you can review and correct any misidentified cards before generating your reading. The scan works best with well lit, clearly visible cards on a contrasting background.

What is AR Card Draw?

AR Card Draw lets you draw virtual tarot cards using augmented reality. Point your camera at a flat surface like a table or desk, tap to place a virtual deck, and then tap cards to draw them for each position in your spread.

Do I need a physical deck for AR Card Draw?

No. AR Card Draw is designed for times when you do not have a physical deck available. The app places a full 78 card virtual deck in your space and randomly assigns cards as you draw them.

What devices support AR Card Draw?

AR Card Draw requires an iPhone or iPad with ARKit support (most models from 2017 and later). The feature is not available on devices that do not support AR, and the button will not appear on unsupported devices.

Why does AR need camera access?

AR uses your camera to detect flat surfaces in your environment and place virtual cards on them. The camera feed is processed entirely on your device and is not recorded, stored, or sent to any server.

Where do I find the Deck Shop?

From the Home screen, tap the Deck Shop card. You can also reach it from Settings under Card Art, at the bottom of your deck list. The shop lists every premium deck available, with the price and a status badge if you already own it.

Can I see all the cards before I buy?

Yes. Tap any deck in the Deck Shop, then tap "Preview All Cards" to scroll through all 78 cards. You can tap a card to view it full size and swipe through the rest, the same way you would in the Card Library.

What happens after I purchase a deck?

The deck appears in Settings under Card Art. Tap the download icon on the deck row to save the artwork to your device, then tap the deck name to select it for your readings. Once a deck is selected, its art appears everywhere in the app: spreads, the Card Library, AR Card Draw, and shared reading images.

How do I switch between decks?

Open Settings and scroll to Card Art. Tap any deck you own to make it your active deck. A checkmark shows the selected deck. You can switch as often as you like, and the change is instant across the app.

Can I redownload a deck without paying again?

Yes. Your purchase is tied to your Apple ID, not the local download. If you remove a deck's images from your device, the download icon reappears next to the deck in Settings under Card Art. Tap it and the cards come back at no charge.

A deck didn't finish downloading. What do I do?

If your connection drops mid download, some of the 78 cards may not have made it. In Settings under Card Art, swipe left on the deck row and tap Remove. Once the saved images are cleared, tap the download icon to start fresh. Re-downloading is free.

I bought a deck on another device. How do I get it here?

Open the Deck Shop (or the deck's detail page), and tap Restore Purchases. Apple verifies your past purchases against your Apple ID and the deck reappears, ready to download. Use the same Apple ID you bought it with.

I see an Update button next to a deck. What does it do?

When a deck's artwork is updated, an Update button appears next to the deck in Settings under Card Art. Tap it once to pull down the latest version of the cards. There's no charge for updates.

Where are downloaded deck images stored?

On your device, in the app's private storage. They are not synced through iCloud, so each iPhone or iPad downloads its own copy after you tap the download icon (or Restore Purchases on a new device).

How do I photograph my own deck?

Go to the deck builder in Settings and photograph each card one at a time. The app will guide you through cropping and saving each image. You can create up to three custom decks.

Where are my card photos stored?

Card photos are stored locally on your device only. They are not uploaded to our servers. If you delete the app or reset your device, your card photos will be lost.

What are credits?

Credits are used within Lantern Arcana Tarot to generate readings and use features like Scan Your Spread. Each reading or scan uses 1 credit. A photo scan combined with a reading uses 2 credits.

How do I get credits?

You receive 10 free credits when you create your account. After that, you can purchase a credit pack (20 credits for $2.99) or subscribe to the monthly plan ($2.99/month for 60 credits). All purchases are made through the App Store.

Do unused subscription credits roll over?

No. Subscription credits reset each billing period. Purchased credits expire 3 years from date of purchase.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account settings (Settings > your name > Subscriptions). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

How do I request a refund?

Since all purchases are processed through Apple, refund requests should be submitted through Apple's Report a Problem page. You can also contact us and we will do our best to help.

How do I reset my password?

On the sign in screen, tap "Forgot password?" and enter your email address. You will receive a link to reset your password.

How do I delete my account?

To request complete deletion of your account and all associated data, email support@lanternarcana.com. You can also delete individual readings from your journal at any time.

Is my data private?

Yes. We do not sell or share your personal information. Your reading data is sent to a third party AI service to generate interpretations, but your email and account credentials are never shared. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

How do I manage email preferences?

Every email we send includes a "Manage email preferences" link in the footer. Tap it to choose which categories you want to receive (seasonal updates, weekly digest, engagement reminders, news and announcements) or unsubscribe from all marketing emails. The link is unique to your account, so you do not need to sign in.
